בְּאֵר pl. בְּאֵרוֹת const. בֶּאֱרוֹר (Genesis 14:10), f.

(1) a well (Arab. بءِْيُر, Syr. ܒܺܐܪܐܳ, ܒܺܪܐܳ, id.), Genesis 24:11, 20 Genesis 24:20, 26:19, 20 Genesis 26:20, 21 Genesis 26:21, etc.; often more fully בְּאֵר מַיִם, Genesis 21:19 בְּאֵר מַיִם חַיִּים, 26:19. It is distinguished from a fountain (עַיִן) on the surface of the ground or flowing from a rock; a well (בְּאֵר) may however be also called a fountain (עַיִן), see Genesis 16:7, comp. ver. 14 Genesis 16:14, 24:11, 13 Genesis 24:13, 16 Genesis 24:16. Used of wells of bitumen; Genesis 14:10.

(2) a pit, Ps. 55:24 69:16.

(3) [Beer], pr.n.
