1426) lq (קל QL) AC: Gather CO: Shepherd AB: ?: The pictograph q is a picture of the sun at the horizon and the gathering of the light, the l is a picture of a shepherd staff representing authority. Combined these mean "gathering to the staff". When the shepherd called the sheep they swiftly came to him. The staff of the shepherd was his tool of authority. With it he would direct, discipline and protect the flock. (eng: clown; call - to call together)

[קָלָה] verb Niph`al belightly esteemed, dishonoured ("" form of קלל; compare Late Hebrew קָלוֺן, ᵑ7קְלנָא disgrace, shame); — Perfect 3 masculine singular consecutive וְנִקְלָה Isaiah 16:14; Deuteronomy 25:3; Participle נִקְלֶה Isaiah 3:5 2t.; — be lightly esteemed, held of little account, Isaiah 16:14 (glory of Moab); אִישׁ רָשׁ וְנִקְלֶה 1 Samuel 18:23; so ( Participle as substantive) Isaiah 3:5 (opposed to נִכְבָּד), Proverbs 12:9 (opposed to מִתְכַּבֵּד); more positively, be dishonoured, degraded, Deuteronomy 25:3 (עֵינֶיךָ).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

קָלָה to roast, to parch (am Feuer röften), as corn, grain, Leviticus 2:14; Joshua 5:11 a person, as a mode of execution, Jeremiah 29:22. (Arab. قلى, Eth. ቀለወ፡ id., compare צָלָה and last remark under the letter צ p. 698, A.) Part. pass. קָלוּי Leviticus 2:14; Joshua 5:11.

Niphal, part. what is scorched; hence, burning, inflammation, Psalms 38:8.

Derivatives, קָלִי, and pr.n. מִקְלוֹת. [This pr.n. should be referred to מָקַל, as it is in its own place, and in Thes.]
