Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אֲמַר Ch. 3 fem. אֲמֶרֶת for אַמְרַת Daniel 5:10 fut. יֵאמַר; inf. מֵאמַר and מֵמַר Ezra 5:11 part. אָמַר i.q. Heb.

(1) to say, with a dat. of pers. Daniel 2:25 with an accus. of thing, Daniel 7:1 also followed by the words spoken, Daniel 2:24 or written, Daniel 7:2 (compare my remarks on the Oriental usage of language on Lu. 1:63, in the London Classical Journal, No. 54, p. 240). Pl. אָֽמְרִין those who say, they are saying, a periphrasis for the Passive it is said. Daniel 3:4, לְכוֹן אָֽמְרִין עַמְמַיָּא “unto you it is said, O people.” Theod. λέγεται.
