חָשָׁה fut. יֶחֱשֶׁה
(1) to keep silence, to be still, (an onomatop. root; comp. under הָסָה). Ecclesiastes 3:7; Psalms 107:29.
(2) to be still, quiet, to rest, often used of God refusing the looked for aid, Isaiah 62:1, Isaiah 62:6, 64:11 65:6. Followed by מִן to turn oneself silently away from any one, Psalms 28:1. Compare חָרַשׁ No. 4.
Hiphil הֶחֱשָׁה
(1) trans, to make still, to quiet, Nehemiah 8:11.
(2) intrans. to be silent, like Kal, (properly, to act silently, compare הֶחֱרֵישׁ, הִשְׁקִיט), Judges 18:9; 2 Kings 2:3, 2 Kings 2:5, 7:9 Psalms 39:3.
(3) to be quiet, i.q. Kal No. 2, Isaiah 57:11; 1 Kings 22:3. As to the form וַתַּחַשׁ [from חוּשׁ] Job 31:5, see Analyt. Ind.
