1 glory, magnificence, of vine Ezekiel 17:8 (so Thes MV, but < adjective f. from אַדִּיר q. v.), of shepherds Zechariah 11:3 (or sub 2).

אַדֶּרֶת

(1) prop. fem. of the adjective אַדִּיר wide, ample (comp. שַׁלִּיט, f. שַׁלֶּטֶת); Ezekiel 17:8, גֶּפֶן אַדֶּרֶת “a wide branching vine;” comp. אַדִּיר No. 1.

(2) a cloak, so called from its being wide, 1 Kings 19:13, 19 1 Kings 19:19; 2 Kings 2:13, 14 2 Kings 2:14; Jonah 3:6 אַדֶּרֶת שִׁנְעָר “a Babylonish cloak,” Joshua 7:21, i.e. variegated with figures, or interwoven with various colours, having the figures of men and beasts; comp. Plin. viii. 48. אַדֶּרֶת שֵׂעָר “a hairy cloak,” i.q. a garment shaggy with hair (Pelz), Genesis 25:25; Zechariah 13:4.
