 [נָזַר] verb dedicate, consecrate, (compare We Skizzen iii. 118), separate, in relig. and ceremonial sense (Late Hebrew only as denominative, compare II. נזר; Arabic make a vow, compare We Skizzen iii. 117f., RS i. 463f., 2 d ed. 482f.; Sabean נדֿר vow Levy ZMG xxii (1868), 196 Min. id., Hom Südar. Chrest. 128; Aramaic נְדַד, vow; Assyrian nazâru, curse Dl HWB 457); —

Niph`al Imperfect יִנָּזֵר Ezekiel 14:7, וַיִנָּזֵר Leviticus 22:2; וַיִּנָָּֽזְרוּ Hosea 9:10; Infinitive absolute הִנָּזֵר Zechariah 7:3; — devote, dedicate oneself unto (ל), הַבּשֶׁת, i.e. Ba`al Hosea 9:10; from (מִן) ׳י Ezekiel 14:7 (of apostasy); hold sacredly aloof from, (מִן) Leviticus 22:2 (H); absolute Zechariah 7:3 consecrating my(self ), i.e. by fasting.

Niphal

(1) to separate oneself from any thing, followed by מֵאַחֲרֵי יְהֹוָה to turn aside from the worship of Jehovah, Ezekiel 14:7.

(2) to abstain from any thing, followed by מִן Leviticus 22:2 absol. used of abstinence from meat and drink, Zechariah 7:3, compare verse Zechariah 7:5. (Syr. Ethpe. id.)

(3) to consecrate oneself to any thing, followed by לְ Hosea 2:10 (cogn. is נָדַר to vow, and the Arab. نذر to vow, to consecrate).

Hiphil הִזִּיר.

(1) causat. to cause any one to separate himself, Leviticus 15:31, וְהִזַּרְתֶּם אֶת־בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִטֻּמְאָתָם “make the children of Israel to separate themselves from their uncleanness,” where the ancient versions have admonish compare Arab. نذر IV., to admonish.

(2) transit. to consecrate, followed by לְ Numbers 6:12.

(3) intrans. i.q. Niphal No. 2, to abstain, followed by מִן Numbers 6:3, and i.q. Niphal No. 3, to consecrate oneself, followed by לַיהוָֹה Numbers 6:2,,.
