1081) ld (דל DL) AC: Back and Forth CO: Door AB: ?: The pictograph d is a door. The l is a picture of staff and represents any rod. Combined these pictures mean "the door on the rod". The tent door was hung down as a curtain, covering the entrance to the tent, from a horizontal pole. The door was then moved to the side for going in and out of the tent. (eng: door - an exchange for the d and l)

דַּל (I) (from the root דָּלָה), pr. something hanging, swinging, hence the leaf of a door as being hung up, and swinging both ways. Once used metaph. the door of the lips, for mouth, Psalms 141:3 (compare Micah 7:5, and πύλαι στόματος, Eurip. Hippol. 882). By far more frequent is fem. דֶּלֶת a door, which see.
(II.) plur. דַּלִּיםִ, fem. דַּלּוֹת feeble (from the root דָּלַל) weak, powerless. 2 Samuel 3:1, “David became continually stronger וּבֵית שָׁאוּל הֹלְכִים וְדַלִּים and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker;” specially
(a) lean, Genesis 41:19; 2 Samuel 13:4, מַדּוּעַ אַתָּה כָּכָה דַּל “why art thou so lean?”
(b) weak, low, ignoble. Often in plur. דַּלִּים Exodus 23:3 Levit. 14:21 19:15 1 Samuel 2:8; Ruth 3:10; Psalms 41:2, 72:13 Proverbs 10:15, 14:31 19:4 Isaiah 14:30, 25:4 26:6.
