1 contempt springing from pride and wickedness Job 31:34; Psalm 123:3; Psalm 123:4 ("" לַעַג); joined in one adverb. phrase with גאוה Psalm 31:19 ׳וָב׳בְּג; springing from prosperity and ease Job 12:5; = object of contempt Genesis 38:23; Proverbs 12:8; "" חֶרְמָּה Psalm 119:22; Proverbs 18:3.
2 judicial, poured out (שׁפך) by God, in judgment Job 12:21 = Psalm 107:40.
בּוּז fut. יָבּוּז to contemn, to despise, kindred to בָּזָה. (Both of these are properly as it appears to me i.q. בּוּס to trample with the feet, which is applied to contempt, comp. Proverbs 27:7.) Const. followed by an acc. Proverbs 1:7 more often by לְ 11:12 13:13 14:21 23:9. Song of Solomon 8:1, Proverbs 6:30, לֹא יָבוּזוּ לַגַּנָּב “they do not despise a thief,” i.e. “they do not let him go unpunished,” comp. 30:17. Zechariah 4:10, בַּז in 3 pret. stands for בָּז, as if from בָּזַז. Hence the following words
