The l is a shepherd staff representing the idea of "toward" as the staff is used to move a sheep toward a direction. Combined these letters mean "a looking toward something" such as the looking toward a light in the distance. The stars have always been used to guide the traveler or shepherd to find his home or destination.

a. of Damascus עִיר תְּהִלָּ֑ה֯ Jeremiah 49:25 (on Qr תְּהִלָּ֑ת see Hi Ges§ 80. 2 b); compare perhaps מַעֲטֵה תְהִלָּה Isaiah 61:3 mantle of renown (renown as a mantle, compare De VB; > Di splendid garment; but Bi Che Du read מַעֲטֵה אֵ֔בֶל and translate ׳ת praise, song of praise, compare 1. 2).
b. of ׳י, מָֽלְאָה הָאָרֶץ׳כִּסָּה שָׁמַים הוֺדוֺ וּת Habakkuk 3:3 his splendour hath covered (the) heavens, and of his renown the earth is full. Also
c. figurative, praise, renown, = object of praise, possessor of renown; used ( a) of Israel Deuteronomy 26:19 (absolute), Jeremiah 13:11 (+ לִי) Jeremiah 33:9 (+ לִי and לְכֹל גּוֺיֵי הָאָרֶץ) — all "" שֵׁם, תִּפְאֶרֶת; see also Isaiah 61:11, & perhaps Psalm 148:14 (see below

תְּהִלָּה f. (from the root הָלַל Piel).
(1) praise, Psalms 22:26, 48:11 51:17 hence
(a) a song containing praise, a hymn, Psalms 22:4, 66:2 145:1 and pl. תְּהִלִּים, as the title of the whole book of Psalms.
(b) the person praised or celebrated, Deuteronomy 26:19; Jeremiah 13:11, 33:9 Zephaniah 3:19, 20 Zephaniah 3:20.
(2) praise, in which any one stands with respect to others, glory, Psalms 9:15; Isaiah 42:8. Hence the person (or thing) wherein any one glories. Jeremiah 17:14, אַתָּה תְהִלָּתִי “thou (Jehovah, art) my glory.” Deuteronomy 10:21.
