Qal Imperfect 3 masculine singularוַּיִּקֹּד Genesis 24:26 +, etc.; — usually + וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ etc.; in worship of ׳י Genesis 24:26,48; Exodus 4:31; Exodus 12:27; Exodus 34:8; Numbers 22:31; 2 Chronicles 20:18; 29:30; Nehemiah 8:6; homage to man of rank Genesis 43:28, king 1 Samuel 24:9 (Gi v. 1 Samuel 24:8), 1 Samuel 28:15; 1 Kings 1:16,31; to ׳י + king 1 Chronicles 1Ki 29:20.
II. קדד (√ of following; meaning dubious.; Late Hebrew קָדְקד = Biblical Hebrew; Assyrian ‡a‡‡adu = קָדְקֹד; compare Jewish-Aramaic).
קָדַד
(1) i.q. Arab. قَدَّ, قَذَّ to cleave (kindred roots גָּדַד, גָּזַז, and the like; see גָּדַד. To this agree Gr. κεδάω, κεδάζω, σκεδάζω). Hence קִדָּה cassia, and קָדְקֹד top.
(2) denom. from קָדְקֹד; to bow down; hence to incline oneself out of honour and reverence. [This meaning is made a separate root in Thes.] Always in the fut. in the Chaldee form יִקֹּד, וַיִּקֹּד; plur. וַיִּקְּדוּ. Often followed by הִשְׁתַּחֲוָה, which is stronger; Genesis 24:26, וַיִּקֹּד הָאִישׁ וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַיהוָֹה “and the man bowed down and prostrated himself before Jehovah;” Exodus 12:27, 34:8 Numbers 22:31; 1 Kings 1:16. Elsewhere קָדַד in a wider sense, includes both. 1 Samuel 24:9, וַיִּקֹּד דָּוִד אַפַּיִם אַרְצָה 1 Samuel 28:14; 1 Kings 1:31.
