1 defection, used apparently of any moral or legal offence Deuteronomy 19:16, so probably Isaiah 59:13 (+ עשֶׁק, דִּבְרֵי שָׁ֑קֶר).

2 apostasy, Deuteronomy 13:6; Isaiah 1:5; Isaiah 31:6; Jeremiah 28:16; Jeremiah 29:32.

3סָרָה בִּלְתִּי non-withdrawal Isaiah 14:6 (compare verb, Isaiah 14:25; Amos 6:7).

סָרָה f. (from the root סוּר), prop. a departing, withdrawing; hence

(1) the violation of a law, an offence, Deuteronomy 19:16.

(2) departure from Jehovah, Deuteronomy 13:6; Jeremiah 28:16, 29:32 Isaiah 1:5, 31:6 59:13.

(3) cessation, Isaiah 14:6. Others derive the first and second significations from the root סָרַר to be stubborn; but for this there is no need.
