 I. [סָלָה] verb make light of, toss aside (compare Assyrian salû, throw off, shake off (yoke) Dl500; Arabic , is be forgetful, neglectful Lane1417; Aramaic סְלָא despise, reject); —

Qal Perfect 2 masculine singular סָלִיתָ Psalm 119:118 thou dost make light of all those that err from thy statutes. — compare also סַלּוֺן below

Pi`el intensive Perfect 3 masculine singular סִלָּה Lamentations 1:15 Adonay hath flouted at my mighty ones.

II. [סָלָה] verb weigh, balance ("" form of סָלָא q.v); —

Pu`al Imperfect 3 feminine singular לֹאתְֿסֻלֶּה בְּכֶתֶם Job 28:16 it cannot be weighed against (estimated in) gold of Ophir, compare Job 28:19.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

סָלָה i.q. סָלָא and סָלַל to lift up. Whence

(1) To suspend a balance, to weigh, see Pual.

(2) Like the Latin elevavit, i.e. contemsit, to despise (as light things are of small importance and value, heavy things of much), Psalms 119:118. (Chald. and Syr. id.)

Piel, i.q. Kal No. 2, Lamentations 1:15.

Pual, pass. of Kal No. 1, Job 28:16 used of wisdom, לֹא תְסֻלֶּה בְּכֶתֶם אוֹפִיר “it cannot be weighed with gold of Ophir,” it cannot be bought with gold.

II. סָלָה perhaps i.q. שָׁלָה (ס and שׁ being interchanged), to be quiet, to be silent. Hence
