Pi`el Perfect 3 feminine singular וְכִהֲתָה consecutive Ezekiel 21:12 (subject כָּלרֿוּחַ; "" וְנָמֵס כָּללֵֿב) grow faint (Pi`el intransitive, Ges§ 52 k, Kö i. 187; but read perhaps כָּֽהֲתָה).
II. [כָּהָה] verb Pi`el rebuke (Syriac , Mandean כהא (Nö M. 72) id.), only 1 Samuel 3:13 followed by בְּ, וְלֹאכִהָה בָּם.
כהן (√ of following; meaning dubious, see Dr 2 Samuel 8:18; Arabic verb is divine, and (Qor 52:29) is a seer, the organ (mostly) of a jinn, rarely of a god: the and the כֹּהֵן must have been originally identical (both alike being guardians of an oracle, at a sanctuary); but their functions diverged: the gradually lost his connection with the sanctuary, and sank to be a mere diviner; the כהן acquired fuller sacrificial functions: see RS Enc. Brit. ed. 9, xix. 727; We Skizzen iii. 130 ff., 167; Now Archaeology ii. 89f.; Phoenician כהן is priest, כהנת priestess).
כָּהָה (Cogn. roots כָּאָה and קָהָה) fut. וַיֵּכַהּ.
(1) to be feeble, to fail in strength, to be cast down in mind, Isaiah 42:4. Specially,
(2) used of a lamp about to go out (see adj. Isaiah 42:3); of eyes become dim, whether by age, Deuteronomy 34:7; Zechariah 11:17; Genesis 27:1 or by grief, Job 17:7.
Piel כִּהָה and כֵּהָה
(1) intrans. to becomepale, as a spot on the skin, Levit. 13:6, 21 Leviticus 13:21, 26 Leviticus 13:26, 28 Leviticus 13:28, 56 Leviticus 13:56 also to be feeble, timid, to be cast down in mind, Ezekiel 21:12 comp. Isaiah 61:3.
(2) to chide, to restrain any one; 1 Samuel 3:13, וְלֹא כִהָה בָּם “and (that) he did not chide them;” i.e. restrain them. Compare כָּאָה. Hence
