Hiph`il Imperfect 1 singular אוֺקִיר אֱנוֺשׁ מִמָּ֑ז Isaiah 13:12 I will make men more rare (literally precious) than fine gold. Imperative הֹקַר Proverbs 25:17 make rare (i.e. withhold) thy foot from the house of thy friend.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

יָקַר fut. יִיקַי 2 Kings 1:13 יִיִקַר Psalms 72:14, and יֵקַר Psalms 49:9.

(1) to be heavy. (Syriac ܝܺܘܰܝܪ, Arabic وقر id.) Metaph. to be hard to be understood, Psal. 139:17, compare Daniel 2:11.

(2) to be precious, dear, Psalms 49:9. Followed by לְ and בְּעֵינֵי to be precious or dear to any one, 1 Sa. 26:21, אֲשֶׁר יָֽקְרָה נַפְשִׁי בְּעֵינֶיךָ “because my life was precious to thee,” because thou hast spared it. 2 Kings 1:13, 14 2 Kings 1:14; Psalms 72:14 also, followed by מֵעַל to be highly estimated by any one (compare צָדַק מִן, רָשַׁע מִן). Zechariah 11:13, “a goodly price, אֲשֶׁר יָקַרְתִּי מֵעֲלֵיהֶם at which I was estimated by them,” i.e. reckoned worth.

(3) to be heavy, i.e. honoured, 1 Samuel 18:30. Compare כָּבֵר.

Hiphil הוֹקִיר to make rare (compare adj. No. 5), Isaiah 13:12; Proverbs 25:17.
