Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

גָּרַם pr. to cut off, like the Syr. ܓܪܡ, and Arab. جَرَمَ. In the Old Testament once followed by a dat. [“to cut off for”] to reserve, to lay up. Zephaniah 3:3, לֹא גָֽרְמוּ לַבֹּקֶר “they lay up nothing for the morrow.” Well rendered by the LXX. οὐχ ὑπελίποντο. Vulg. non relinquebant ad mane. Comp. אָצַל לְ Genesis 27:36, also جزم Koran 11:87.

Piel גֵּרֵם (denom. from גֶּרֶם), to gnaw bones. Numbers 24:8, “he shall devour the nations his enemies, וְעַצְמוֹתֵיהֶם יְגָרֵם and he shall gnaw their bones.” Hence figuratively, Ezekiel 23:34, “thou shalt drink and suck it (the cup) out, וְאֶת־חֲרָשֶׂיהָ תְּגָרֵמִי and thou shalt gnaw the sherds,” i.e. thou shalt lick, lest a single drop of wine be left therein.
