"to be strong, obtain, hold, hold fast," is translated "to retain," of sins, John 20:23 (twice); see on REMIT. See HOLD , KEEP , OBTAIN , TAKE.

Notes: (1) In Philemon 1:13 , AV, katecho, "to hold fast, hold back, detain," is translated "to retain" (RV, to keep). (2) In Romans 1:28 , AV, echo, "to have" (RV), is translated "to retain."
