Niph`al Perfect 3 feminine singular נָב֫וֺכָה Esther 3:15; 3 masculine plural נָבֹ֫כוּ Joel 1:18; Participle plural נְבֻכִים Exodus 14:3; — be confused, in confusion (of a city) Esther 3:15; = wander aimlessly (of Israel) Exodus 14:3; so of cattle Joel 1:18 (Merx proposes בָּכוּ, after ᵐ5 ἔκλαυσαν, but בכה not elsewhere of cattle).
בּוּךְ a root not used in Kal, which had the signification of turning, rolling, and hence of disturbing, perplexing, comp. אָבַךְ, أَفَكَ and הָפַךְ to turn, to turn about, Arab. بَاكَ to be confused, disturbed, used of any affair, نك to involve oneself in evil.
Niphal נָבוֹךְ Part. pl. נְבֻכִים (Exodus 14:3), to be entangled, Esther 3:15 to wander in perplexity, Joel 1:18 Ex. loc. cit.; hence מְבוּכָה.
