Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

רְעוּת (f. of the word רְעוּ i.q. רֵעֶה, רֵעַ, of the form כְּלִי=כֵּלֶה, מְתוּ=מֶת a man; from the root רָעָה No. 3).

(1) a female companion, friend, Esther 1:19; Exodus 11:2 preceded by אִשָּׁה altera, altera, one, another, Isaiah 34:15, 16 Isaiah 34:16; Jeremiah 9:19.

(2) desire, study of any thing. רְעוּת רוּחַ a vain pursuit, Ecclesiastes 1:14, 2:11, 17, 26 4:4, 6:9 compare רָעָה רוּחַ Hosea 12:2, and Chald. רְעוּת.

רְעוּת Chald. will, Ezra 5:17, 7:18 from the root רָעָה No. 3.
