 אֲרֻבָּה noun feminine lattice, window, sluice (Mishna id.) — ׳א Hosea 13:3; plural אֲרֻבּוֺת 2 Kings 7:2 +, construct id.. Malachi 3:10; אֲרֻבֹּת Genesis 7:11; Genesis 8:2; אֲרֻבֹּתֵיהֶם Isaiah 60:8; — lattice, latticed opening, where smoke escaped Hosea 13:3; openings of dove-cote Isaiah 60:8; metaphor of eyes Ecclesiastes 12:3 (as latticed by lashes ? Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אֲרֻבָּה f. prop. interwoven work, or net-work, lattices. Once in sing. Hosea 13:3, elsewhere always in pl. אֲרֻבּוֹת. [Root אָרַב.]

(1) a window (as being closed with lattice-work, not with glass), Ecclesiastes 12:3.

(2) a dove-house, as being shut in with lattice-work, Isaiah 60:8 and for the same cause

(3) a chimney or smoke-hole, Hosea 13:3. Comp. Voss on Virg. Georg. ii. 242.

(4) אֲרֻבּוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם “flood gates of heaven,” which are opened when it rains, Genesis 7:11, 8:2 2 Kings 7:19; Isaiah 24:18; Malachi 3:10.

אֲרֻבּוֹת [Aruboth], pr.n. of a place, situated probably in the tribe of Judah, 1 Kings 4:10.
