Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נָטַל fut. יִטֹּל

(1)  to take up, to lift. (Syr. ܢܛܰܠ to be heavy, from the idea of carrying. Cogn. roots are תָּלַל, תָּלָה, τλάω, τλῆμι, tollo, and those which are formed from them, as tolero.) Isaiah 40:15, כַּדַּק יִטּוֹל “as a particle of dust (which any one) takes up.” [“He takes up the isles as dust.” Thes.]

(2) Followed by עַל to lay upon some one. 2 Samuel 24:12, שָׁלשׁ אָנֹכִי נוֹטֵל עָלֶיךָ “I lay upon thee three things;” (in the parallel place, 1 Chronicles 21:10, there is נוֹטֶה. In the same sense is said נָתַן לִפְנֵי Jerem. 21:8 ). Lamentations 3:28, כִּי נָטַלּ לֳָיו “because (God) has laid upon him the load of calamity.”

Piel, i.q. Kal No. 1, Isaiah 63:9.
