מָרוֹם m. (from the root רוּם)
(1) height; what is high, lofty, sublime. Placed after another word in the gen. הַר מְרוֹם יִשְׂרָאֵל the lofty mountain of Israel, of Zion, Ezekiel 17:23, 20:40 34:14. בַּמָּרוֹם on high, Job 39:18 and מָרוֹם in acc. id. Isai. 37:23, וַתִּשָּׂא מָרוֹם עֵינֶיךָ “and thou liftest up thine eyes on high.” Concr. Most High (of God), Psalms 92:9 and coll. leaders, princes, Isaiah 24:4. Poet. very high is also applied to any thing far off. Psalms 10:5, מָרוֹם מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ מִנֶּגְדּוֹ “thy judgments are very far off from him;” comp. רוּם Isaiah 30:18.
(2) a lofty, fortified place, Habakkuk 2:9 specially of heaven, Psalms 18:17; Isaiah 24:18, 21 Isaiah 24:21, 40:26 57:15 58:4 Jeremiah 25:30 pl. מְרוֹמִים id. Job 16:19 of the lofty seat of Jehovah in Zion, Psalms 7:8 of an inaccessible fortress, Isaiah 26:5. Plur. figuratively, of great honours, Ecclesiastes 10:6.
(3) loftiness of mind, pride; adv. Psalms 56:3.
