Qal Imperfect מַתָּן בַּסֵּתֶר יִכְמֶּהאָֿ֑ף Proverbs 21:14 a gift in secret subdueth anger (so Thes Rob-Ges; Ew beugt: Fl De averteth, from the Arabic, is more remote; ᵐ5 ἀνατρέπει, compare Late Hebrew).

כָּפָה to bend, to bow to depress [kindred to כָּפַף], hence to tame, to subdue; Chald. and Talmud. כפא to bow down, to depress, to overcome, to turn away; Arab. كفأ to turn away, to turn aside; Proverbs 21:14, מַתָּן בַּסֵּתֶר יִכְפֶּה אַף “a gift in secret tameth wrath;” LXX. ἀνατρέπει ὀργάς; and so the Syriac version. On the other hand, Sym. σβέσει ὀργήν; Vulg. extinguit iras; comp. כָּבָה to extinguish.
