2 vessel with capacity of hin Leviticus 19:36 (H) הִיןצֶֿדֶק a just hin ("" ׳מאֹזְנֵי צ, ׳אַבְנֵיצֿ, ׳אֵיפַת צ). — The hin = 1/6 bath according to Joseph. Ant. iii. 8, 3; 9,4, = 6.06 litres (Hultsch l.c.), see II. בַּת. On order of words in above passages, note that הִין (׳רְבִיעִת ה etc.) is usually appositive of liquid measured, & either precedes it Exodus 29:40; Numbers 15:4; Numbers 28:14, or, more often, follows it Exodus 30:24 10t.; Numbers 28:7 they are in different clauses; in Exodus 29:40 we find בְּשֶׁמֶןרֶ֗֗֗בַע הַהִין, compare Numbers 15:6,9; Numbers 28:5; — Numbers 28:14 is peculiar: וְנִסְכֵּיהֶם חֲצִי הַהִין יִהְיֶה לַמָּר וּשְׁלִישִׁתהַהִין לָאַיִל וּרְבִיעִת הַהִין לַכֶּבֶשׂ יָ֑יִן (יין only at end).
הִין m. a hin, a measure of liquids containing [“the seventh part of a Bath, i.e. twelve Roman sectarii”] 12 לֹנ, 2 Attic χόες (according to Joseph. Ant. iii. 9 § ). Numbers 15:4, sqq., 28:5, Numbers 28:7, 14 Numbers 15:14; Ezekiel 4:11. LXX. Εἴν, ἴν, ὗν. Its etymology is doubtful. It may be derived from הוּן as being a light, small measure. [This reason is rejected in Thes.] [“This corresponds to the Egyptian hn, hno, which signifies prop. vessel, and then a small measure, sectarius, Gr. ἵνιον. See Leemans, Lettre a Salvolini, p. 154. Bökh. Metrol. Untersuch. pp. 244, 260. But it is not certain that these Hebr. and Egypt. measures were of the same size.” Ges. add.]
