II. כלה (√ of following; meaning unknown).
כְּלִי m. in pause כֶּ֑לִי pl. כֵּלִים (from the lost sing. כֵּלֶה const. כְּלֵי properly whatever is made, completed, or prepared, from the root כָּלָה, a word of very general import, like the Germ. Zeug from zeugen, i.e. to complete = τεύχειν, specially
(1) any utensil, vessel. Genesis 31:37, 45:20. כְּלֵי זָהָב, כְּלֵי כֶסֶף vessels of gold, of silver (Silberzeug. Exodus 3:22, 11:2. כְּלֵי בֵית־יְהֹוָה Ezra 1:7, and כְּלֵי יְהֹוָה Isaiah 52:11, the vessels of the temple. כְּלֵי גוֹלָה vessels of wandering, outfit for exile (Wanderzeug), Jeremiah 46:19.
(2) clothing (Zeug), ornaments. כְּלִי גֶבֶר a man’s clothing, Deuteronomy 22:5 used of the ornaments of a bride, Isaiah 61:10 also of yokes for oxen, 2 Samuel 24:22.
(3) a vessel for sailing (Fahrzeug). Isaiah 18:2.
(4) an implement, a tool (Werkzeug). בְלֶי שִׁיר musical instruments, 2 Chronicles 34:12; Amos 6:5. כְּלִי־נֶבֶל pleon. instrument of a psaltery, Psalms 71:22. Metaph. כְּלֵי זַעַם יְהֹוָה instruments of the indignation of Jehovah. Isai. 13:5 Jeremiah 50:25. Isai. 32:7, כֵּלַי כֵּלָיו רָעִים “(as to) the deceiver his instruments are evil,” i.e. the devices which he uses to carry out his plans. Genesis 49:5.
