יֶלֶד m. plur. constr. יַלְדֵי and יִלְדֵי (Isaiah 57:4)
(1) one born, a son, poetically i.q. בֵּן. Hence יַלְדֵי נָכְרִים sons of strangers, poet. for strangers (compare בֵּן p. 125, B.), sons of wickedness, for the Wicked, Isaiah 57:4. Used κατʼ ἐξοχὴν, of the king’s son [rather, the son of God, himself the mighty God], Isaiah 9:5. Plur. comm. children, i.q. בָּנִים 1 Samuel 1:2; Ezra 10:1 also of the young of animals, Isaiah 11:7; Job 38:41.
(2) a child, sometimes one recently born, Genesis 21:8, seq.; Exodus 1:17, 2:3, seq.; sometimes one older, a young man, Genesis 4:23 (in the other hemistich אִישׁ). Ecclesiastes 4:13; 1 Kings 12:8 (opp. to זָקֵן).
