חָדָשׁ f. חֲדָשָׁה adj. new, e.g. used of a cart, a threshing wain, 1 Samuel 6:7; Isaiah 41:5 of a house, Deuteronomy 20:5, 22:8 of a wife, Deuteronomy 24:5 a king, Exodus 1:8 a song, Psal. 33:3 40:4 a name, Isaiah 62:2. It often means fresh of this year; of grain (opposed to יָשָׁן), Levit. 26:10 unheard of, Ecclesiastes 1:9, 10 “new gods,” i.e. such as had not been previously worshipped, Deuteronomy 32:17. חֲדָשָׁח “something new,” Isaiah 43:19, plur. Isaiah 42:9. As to חָגוּר חֲדָשָׁה 2 Samuel 21:16, see חָגַר.
