Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

תָּעָה fut. יִתְעֶה apoc. יֵתַע

(1)  to err, to wander, to go astray. (Aram. ܛܥܐܳ Arabic طفى id., of very rare occurrence are, تَفَِى to pass away, and تفى to perish). Exodus 23:4; Job 38:41 followed by בְּ of place, Genesis 21:14, 37:15. Followed by an acc. to wander through or over, metaph. used of palm branches, Isaiah 16:8. It is used also

(a) of drunken men who go astray through drink. Isaiah 28:7, תָּעוּ מִן־הַשֵּׁבָר “they go astray through strong drink;” and by a figure taken from drunken men, Isaiah 21:4, תָּעָה לְבָבִי “my heart reeleth.”

(b) used of the mind which wanders from the path of virtue and piety, Psalms 58:4; Ezekiel 48:11 compare תֹּעֵי לֵבָב Psalms 95:10 תֹּעֵי רוּחַ Isaiah 29:24 followed by מִן e.g. from the precepts of God, Psalms 119:110 compare Proverbs 21:16 followed by מֵעַל יְחוָֹה Ezekiel 44:10, 15 Ezekiel 44:15 followed by מֵאַחֲרֵי יְהֹוָה from worshipping God, Ezekiel 14:11. Compare Chald. טְעָה which is specially: to be addicted to the worship of idols, to be a heretic.

(2) i.q. אָבַד “to perish,” Proverbs 14:22 compare above, Arab. تفى.

Niphal, to wander (pr. to be made to wander), Isaiah 19:14. Metaph. to be deceived, to err in a moral sense, Job 15:31.

Hiphil, fut. apoc. יֶתַע

(1) to cause to err, Job 12:24; Psalms 107:40 Jerem. 50:6, a drunken man, Job 12:25. Metaph. to cause a people to wander from virtue and piety to impiety, Isaiah 3:12, 9:15 and the worship of idols, 2 Kings 21:9 followed by מִן Isaiah 63:17.

(2) intrans. to err (pr. to cherish error), Jerem. 42:20 קרי. Proverbs 10:17.
