Pu`al Perfect 3 masculine singular שֹׂרָ֑ף, of goat Leviticus 10:16 it was burnt up (and gone).
שָׂרַף fut. יִשְׂרֹף.
(1) prop. to suck in, to absorb, to drink in (fchlürfen), to swallow down, i.q. Ch. שְׂרַף, and Syr. ܣܪܦ, see Middeldorpf, Curæ Hexapl. in Job., p. 15; compare under the root שָׂפָה. Hence
(2) to absorb with fire, i.e. to burn, to consume, as towns, houses, altars, Leviticus 4:21, 8:17 9:11 often with the addition of בָּאֵשׁ Joshua 11:9, 11 Joshua 11:11; Judges 18:27; 2 Kings 23:11, 25:9. Used of the burning of a corpse at the funeral, Jeremiah 34:5 also to burn, and to bake (bricks) by burning, Genesis 11:3.
