Qal Perfect 3 feminine singular consecutive וְשָֽׁקְעָה; Amos 9:5 it shall sink like the Nile (of land; opposed to עָלַה); 3 feminine singular וַתִּשְׁקַע Numbers 11:2 (JE), of fire, it sunk down, died out; תִּשְׁקַע Jeremiah 51:64, of Babylon (like stone in water; opposed to קוּם).
Niph`al 3 feminine singular נִשְׁקְעָה Amos 8:8 Qr, of land, sink (opposed to עָלָה; =
Qal Amos 9:5; Kt erroneous נשקה, compare W SG287).
Hiph`il Imperfect 1 singular אַשְׁקִיעַמֵימֵיהֶם Ezekiel 32:14 I will make their waters sink, (settle, grow clear); 2 masculine singular וּחְֶבֶל תַּשְׁקִיעַ לְשׁוֺנוֺ Job 40:25 with a cord wilt thou make his tongue sink (? pull or press it down; of crocodile; Mich Suppl,2349 cited Thes 1477, compare Samaritan = חבשׁ bind).
שָׁקַע to subside, to sink down, as fire, Numbers 11:2 to be submerged as a country, Jeremiah 51:64; Amos 9:5, “it is overflowed, כִּיאֹר מִצְריִם as by the river of Egypt,” where it is joined with an acc. of plenty.
Niphal, to be submerged (of a country), Amos 8:8 קרי. In כתיב for נִשְׁקְעָה there is נִשְׁקָה by elision of ע.
Hiphil
(1) to cause to sink down, water, Ezekiel 32:14.
(2) to sink, to depress, Job 40:25 בְּחֶבֶל תַּשְׁקִיעַ לְשֹׁנוֹ “canst thou sink down his tongue with a cord?” canst thou tame him (the crocodile) by putting a cord or bridle in his mouth?
