Qal Imperfect with apocope תֶּ֑שִׁי צוּר יְלָֽדְךָ Deuteronomy 32:18, but < read תִּשֶּׁה (II. נשׁה) the Rock which begat thee thou forgattest, Samaritan תשא, Di Dr.
שָׁיָה an uncertain root, to which apparently may be referred fut. apoc. תֶּ֑שִׁי (of the form וַיֶּהִ֑ר), Deuteronomy 32:18. LXX. ἐγκατέλιπες. Vulg. dereliquisti; in the other hemistich וַתִּשְׁכַּח (hast forgotten). Apparently שָׁיָה signifies the same as שָׁהָה, سها to forget, to neglect; whence سَهْوُ want of care, ה between two vowels being changed into י, as is often done, compare צָהָה and צָיָה, פָּהָה and פָּיָה, זָהָה and زَيَّى to adorn, نهأ and نيأ to be raw (flesh); also יְיֵטִיב for יְהֵיטִיב; and also compare the same change of the letter א in דָּאָה, דַּיָּה (vulture), ܩܳܐܡܶ, ܩܳܝܡܐܳ; unless תֶּשִׁי be rather taken from the verb שָׁהָה itself, as if contracted from תֶּשְׁהִי (for תִּשְׁהֶה, compare תֶּמְחִי Jeremiah 18:23, for תִּמְחֶה), compare זִו for זְהִיו. Others have less appropriately compared Arab. سوى IV. to omit (prop. to lay aside, ben Seite legen); for the root سوى answers to the Heb. שָׁוָה, שִׁוָּה.
