2 (thin) cloud, usually plural (often "" שָׁמַיִם), Deuteronomy 33:26 (poem), Isaiah 45:8; Jeremiah 51:9; Job 35:5; Job 36:28; Job 37:21; Job 38:37; Psalm 36:6; Psalm 57:11; Psalm 68:35; Psalm 77:18; Psalm 78:23; Psalm 108:5; opposed to תְּהוֺם Proverbs 3:20; Proverbs 8:28; ׳עָבֵי שׁ 2 Samuel 22:12 = Psalm 18:12; = heavens, sky Job 37:18 (with חִרְקִיעַ), and (singular) Psalm 89:7; Psalm 89:38.

שַׁחַק m.
(1) dust; so called as being made small, Isaiah 40:15.
(2) a cloud (Arab. سَاحْقُ a thin cloud; prop. apparently a cloud of dust, as something similar). Plur. clouds, Job 38:37 to which are ascribed showers, Job 36:28; Psalms 78:23; Proverbs 3:20 thunder (Psalms 77:18). Meton. used of the firmament of heaven, i.q. שָׁמַיִם and רָקִיעַ. Job 37:18, “hast thou, like him (God), spread out the sky (שְׁחָקִים) which is firm like a molten mirror?” Proverbs 8:28; Job 37:21; Deuteronomy 33:26; Job 35:5; Psalms 68:35 (where, in the other hemistich, there is שָׁמַיִם). So also the sing., Psalms 89:7, 38 Psalms 89:38. (Sam. שׁחקיה for שָׁמַיִם Genesis 7:19.)
