צוּם to fast. (Arabic صَامَ Aram. id. The primary idea lies in the mouth being shut; see as to roots ending in m above at דָּמַם page 203, B.) Judges 20:26; Zechariah 7:5, הֲצוֹם צַמְתֻּנִי “have ye fasted to me?” where the suffix must be regarded as a dative.
