נֹכַח pr. subst. what is over against, in sight, used as a prep.
(1) over against, opposite, Exodus 26:35, 40:24 Joshua 15:7, 18:17 1 Kings 20:29.
(2) before. נֹכַח יְהֹוָה i.q. לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה before Jehovah, i.e. acceptable to him, Judges 18:6. נֹכַח פְּנֵי יְהֹוָה before Jehovah, Lamentations 2:19 metaph. known to him, Jeremiah 17:16 compare Proverbs 5:21. שׂוּם נֹכַח פָּנִים to put (any thing) before one’s own face, i.e. regard it with favour, to delight in it, Ezekiel 14:7 (verse Ezekiel 14:3 for שׂוּם there is נָתַן).
With prefixes
(1) אֶל נֹכַח pr. towards the face or front of, any thing; towards, Numbers 19:4.
(2) לְנֹכַח
(a) adv. towards what is opposite, i.e. straight before oneself (gerade vor fich, Luth. ftracks) Proverbs 4:25.
(b) before, Genesis 30:38 hence
(c) for (comp. Germ. vor and für, the latter of which has properly a local signification), used after a verb of interceding, Genesis 25:21.
(3) עַד נֹכַח unto, even to (the place which is) over against, Judges 19:20; Ezekiel 47:20.
