III. רעה (Aramaic רְעָא, , take pleasure (in), desire, = Arabic [Hebrew רָצָה], whence Aramaic רְעוּתָא desire, רַעֲיָנָא, רַעֲיוֺנָא, , opinion, thought, disposition, and following late and Aramaic words in Hebrew, compare Nö ZMG liv (1900), 155; > De Siegf Qoh. 18 and others from I. רעה
2 b, compare Hosea 12:2, and Arabic ; watch, regard, respect (Lane) [Ba WU 46f. Kau Armaismen 82f. derive following from I. רעה = observe, attend to, specifically tend sheep, also aim at, purpose]).
מֵרֵעַ masc. (with each Tzere impure), i.q. רֵעַ a friend, a companion; with suffix מֵרֵעֵהוּ Genesis 26:26 plur. מֵרֵעִים Judges 14:20, 15:6 with suffix מֵרֵעֵהוּ for מֵרֵעֵיהוּ Proverbs 19:7. It has the form as if Hiphil of the verb רָעַע, borrowing its signification from the verb רָעָה No. 2, unless it be laid down that מֵרֵעַ is comp. of דֵעַ and מִן (like מִגֹּאֵל, מִצָּעִיר, see מִן No. 3, letter ), and that it only denotes a companion, not a friend, i.q. מְיֻדַּע. This is the only way of explaining the former Tzere being unchanged. [But see Thes. p. 1296.]
