II. חלד (√ of following; compare Late Hebrew חלד dig, or hollow out, Aramaic creep, crawl).
חֶלֶד m.
(1) duration, or time of life [“life, as passing away quickly.”], Psalms 39:6, 89:48 whence life, Job 11:17 according to others, time (like עוֹלָם).
(2) the world (compare עוֹלָם). Psalms 49:2, 17:14, מְתִים מֵחֶלֶד “those who love the things of the world;” compare κόσμος, John 15:18, 19.
