Pi`el revile, blaspheme (Late Hebrew גָּדַף cut, wound, then (especially Pi) revile; Arabic cut, cut off, II. deny a favour, be ungrateful, etc.; Aramaic Pa`el גַּדֵּף, , revile) — Perfect 2 masculine singular וְגִדַּפְתָּ 2 Kings 19:22 = Isaiah 37:23; 3 plural גִּדְּפוּ 2 Kings 19:6 = Isaiah 37:6; Participle מְגַדֵּף Numbers 15:30; Psalm 44:17; —
1 revile, between man and Prayer of Manasseh , (absolute) קוֺלמְחָרֵף וּמְגַדֵּף Psalm 44:17 the voice of (him that) reproacheth and revileth.
2 blaspheme, followed by accusative ׳י Numbers 15:30 (P); 2 Kings 19:22 = Isaiah 37:23 ("" חֵרֵף; object אֶתמִֿי, reference to ׳י as above); Ezekiel 20:27; 2accusative הַדְּבָרִיםנַעֲרֵי מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר אֹתִי ׳אֲשֶׁר ג ... 2 Kings 19:6 = Isaiah 37:6 the words with which the servants of the king of Assyria blaspheme me.
גָּדַף pr. i.q. Arab. جدف to cut off (compare under גָּדַד), figuratively to cut with opprobrious words. So
Piel. גִּדֵּף to reproach, to revile. (Arab. Conj. II. Syr. Pael id.)
(a) men (see גִּדּוּפִים), especially
(b) God, 2 Kings 19:6, 22 2 Kings 19:22; Isaiah 37:6, 23 Isaiah 37:23; Psalms 44:17. This may not only be done by words but also in action, when men, by boldly and determinedly sinning, mock God and his law. Numbers 15:30; Ezekiel 20:27.
