מַרְאֶה const. מַרְאֵה with suff. מַרְאֵיךְ Song of Solomon 2:14 מַרְאֵהוּ Leviticus 13:34 מַרְאֶהָ Leviticus 13:35 but more often with forms of the suffix, which appear to be pl., of which however the Yod is radical (see מַעֲשֶׂה, מִקְנֶה, and Gramm. § 90, 9), like מַרְאַיִךְ Song of Solomon 2:14 מַרְאָיו Job 41:1 and מַרְאֵיהֶם, מַרְאֵיהֶן (which are found construed with a sing. Genesis 41:21; Leviticus 14:37; Daniel 1:15), plur. const. מַרְאֵי Ecclesiastes 11:9 כתיב (מַרְאֵה קדי) m. (from the root רָאָה).
(1) appearance, look, aspect, Genesis 41:21; Song of Solomon 2:14 [and often Arab. مَرْآةُ]; Leviticus 13:12, לְכָל־מַרְאֵה עֵינֵי הַכֹּהֵן “according to all the looking of the priest,” i.e. as to what the priest sees in him. Deuteronomy 28:34, מַרְאֵה עֵינֶרךָ “what thine eyes behold;” verse 67 Deuteronomy 28:67; Isaiah 11:3; Ezekiel 23:16.
(2) vision, sight, Exodus 3:3; Ezekiel 8:4, 11:24 43:3 Daniel 8:16.
(3) form, appearance, Exodus 24:17; Ezekiel 1:16, 28 Ezekiel 1:28. It is placed after in the genitive, יְפַת מַרְאֶה Genesis 12:11 טוֹבַת מַרְאֶה Genesis 24:16, 26:7, fair of form; and with לְ prefixed, נֶחְמָד לְמַרְאֶה beautiful of form, Genesis 2:9. In the prophetic style the appearance of anything, is what is like such a thing; comp. דְּמוּת No.3. Daniel 10:18, וַיִּגַע־בִּי בְּמַרְאֵה אָדָם “there touched me as the appearance of a man;” Ezekiel 8:2 also 1:26, דְּמוּת בְּמַרְאֵה.
