Vocabulary of the Greek NT

In Syll 939.17 (an undated decree from Arcadia, containing regulations about the mysteries, in strongly dialectic form, and therefore presumably not late) we find μάκων [σ ]ι λευκαῖς , λυχνίοις , θυμιάμασιν , [ζ ]μύρναι , ἄρωμασιν all governed by χρέεσθαι (= χρῆσθαι ). So OGIS 383.143 (i/B.C.) ἐπιθύσεις . . . ἀρωμάτων ἐν βωμοῖς τούτοις ποιείσθω , P Oxy IX. 1211.10 (ii/A.D.) πᾶν ἄρωμα χωρὶς λιβάνου , ";every Spice except frankincense,"; in a list of articles for a sacrifice, BGU I. 149.1 (ii/iii A.D.) (= Chrest. I. 93) ]ς τιμὴν [τῶν ἀρ ]ωμάτων , in temple-accounts, and p Leid Wvi. 16.

For the adj. see P Fay 93.5 ff. (a lease of a perfumery business, A.D. 161) (= Chrest. Add the inscription on a seal of the time of the Antonines ἀρωματικῆς τῶν κυρίων Καισάρων , where Rostovzew supplies ὠνῆς after . : see Archiv ii. p. 443, and for the ἀρωματική tax, ib. iii. p. 192, iv. p. 313 ff. The verb occurs Priene 112.62 (after B.C. 84) ἠρωματισμένον . . . ε ̣̀λ ̣α ̣ιον .
