Pass. ὑπέστρωμαι Orac. ap. Hdt. 1.47; 3 sg. ὑπεστόρεσται and inf. ὑπεστορῆσθαι Anon. ap. Suid.; part. ὑπεστορεσμένος Gal. 16.749, Gp. 10.44.1:

spread, lay, or strew under, esp. of bed-clothes, ἡ μὲν δέμνι' ἄνωγεν ὑποστορέσαι δμῳῇσιν Od. l. c.; ὑποστρώσεις τρίκλινον Amphis 46; προσκεφάλαια ὑποστρῶσαι Thphr. Char. 2.11 (so in Med., ὑποστόρεσαι.. τῆς ὀριγάνου strew me some of it under, Ar. Ec. 1030, cf. Nic. Th. 63); λέκτρα ὑποστρῶσαί τινι make his bed for a man, i. e. serve him as a wife, E. l. c.; ὑπεστρώννυον τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Luke 19:36 : abs., make a bed, οὔκουν ὑποστορεῖτε μαλακῶς τῷ κυνί; Eub. l. c., cf. Phan.Hist.l.c.: Pass., εὗδ', ὑπὸ δ' ἔστρωτο ῥινὸν βοός Il. 10.155; δάφνην ὑπέστρωται Call. Iamb. 1.223; τὰς εὐνὰς.. ὑποστόρνυσθαι X. l.c.; ὑ. στρώμαθ' ἁλουργῆ Anaxandr. 41.6 (anap.); ᾗ χαλκὸς ὑπέστρωται which has copper laid under it, Orac. ap. Hdt. 1.47.

2. metaph., κέρδεσιν χεῖρας ὑ., of the action of the hand in receiving money, APl. 4.272 (Leont.); γαλήνην ὑ. ταῖς τριήρεσιν Them. Or. 10.133b; ὑδατὶς οὐσία τίς ἐστι.. ὑπεστρωμένη τῷ.. δέρματι Paul.Aeg. 6.14.

II bestrew with a thing, ἅλω οἰνάροις Babr. l.c.

III metaph. in pf. Pass., to be subject to.., τῶν τοῖς θεοῖς κλήρων ὑπεστρωμένων Dam. Pr. 398, cf. Procl. Inst. 132: so in Act., subject, πάντα -στρώσαντες ἑαυτοῖς ib. 121.

ὑποστρώννυμι and ὑποστωννύω (later forms, found in Plutarch, Themistius, Athen., others, for the earlier ὑποστορέννυμι and ὑποστορνυμι: imperfect 3 person plural ὑπεστρώννυον; to strew; spread under: τί, Luke 19:36 (Isaiah 58:5).
