τάχος [ ᾰ], εος, τό, (ταχύς) swiftness, speed, ἵπποισι.., οἷσιν Ἀθήνη νῦν ὤρεξε τ. Il. 23.406, cf. 515; τ. καὶ βραδυτής Pl. Tht. 156c, Arist. Ph. 228b29, etc.: pl., velocities, Pl. Ti. 39d, Lg. 893d.
2. τ. φρενῶν quickness of temper, hastiness, E. Ba. 670; ὁ χρόνος μάθησιν ἀντὶ τοῦ τάχους.. δίδωσι Id. Supp. 419; f.l. in Pl. Lg. 944c; τ. τῆς ψυχῆς quickness of apprehension, ib. 689c.
II τάχος is freq. used in Adverbial phrases for ταχέως, abs. in acc., A. Th. 58, Ag. 945, Eu. 124, E. Rh. 986, HF 860 (troch.), etc.; also in dat., τάχει ὁμοίως with like velocities, Pl. Ach. 686, etc.; κατὰ τάχος Hdt. 1.124, 152, Th. 1.73; κατὰ τὸ τ. PCair.Zen. 130.11 (iii B.C.); τὸ τ. (without κατὰ) ib. 158.2, 166.4, 428.15, PHib. 1.62.13 (all iii B.C.). etc.; μετὰ τάχους Pl. ";a wound"; : Ostr 1150.5 (B.C. 134) τὸ τραῦμα ὃ ἔχεις οὐ πεποίκαμέν (l. πεποιήκαμέν) σοι, PSI V. 455.13 (A.D. 178) ἔχοντα ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς τραύματα τρία, P Oxy I. 52.17 (A.D. 325) τ ]οῦ δεξιοῦ γονατίου τραύματος, and from the inscrr. Syll.3 528.10 (B.C. 221–19) πλείους ἐκ τ [ῶν ] τραυμάτων ἀρωστίαις. . . π [εριπε ]σεῖν. In the NT the word is found only in Luke 10:34 (elsewhere πληγή is employed) : see Hobart, p. 28.
