make to grow together, unite a wound, D.S. 32.11 (cj.), Dsc. 1.128; ς. τὰ ὁμογενῆ Arist. Mete. 378b15; ς. τοὺς ἄνωθεν ὀδόντας imagine them unite into one, Id. PA 659b24; ς. τινὰς εἰς φιλότητα unite them, Pl. 323b: but συμφῦσαι in Id. Smp. 192e is f.l. for συμφυσῆσαι.

II Pass., with pf. Act. συμπέφῡκα, aor. 2 συνέφῡν (3 sg. opt. συμφύη Sor. 2.89); also συνεφύην Arist. Pol. 1262b13, Thphr. CP 5.5.3, Sor. 1.36, etc.: fut. συμφυήσομαι Gp. 4.12.9: grow together, Emp. 26.7, 95 (tm.), Pl. Smp. 191a, Ti. 76e, X. Cyr. 4.3.18, etc.; [ ψυχὴ καὶ σῶμα ] Pl. Phdr. 246d; of a political constitution, Plb. 4.32.9.

2. grow together, unite, as a wound, Hp. Aph. 6.24, al.; of bones, Id. Art. 14, Sor. 2.57; of the mouth of the womb and other passages, Arist. GA 773a16, cf. 747a12; τὰ Χείλη καὶ τὰ βλέφαρα καὶ τῶν δακτύλων τὰ μεταξὺ πολλάκις ἑλκωθέντα συνέφυ, κατὰ φύσιν δὲ ἔχοντα.. οὐ συμφύεται διὰ λειότητα Diocl.Fr. 26; διὰ τί οἱ αἰδούμενοι τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς συμπεφύκασι; Alex.Aphr.
