III agree in saying, ὡς πάντα καλῶς κεῖται Pl. Lg. 634e; ὅτι οὐκ ἀσφαλές ἐστι Arist. Mir. 838b34. to be satisfactory, συμφωνεῖ μοι πάντα, ὡς πρόκειται PAmh. 2.149.22 (vi A.D.), cf. PLips. 26.13 (iv A.D.), etc.

συμφωνέω, συμφώνω; future συμφωνήσω ((Matthew 18:19 T Tr; Luke 5:36 L T Tr text WH)); 1 aorist συνεφώνησα; 1 aorist passive, συνεφωνήθην; from Plato and Aristotle down; properly, to sound together, be in accord; of sounds and of musical instruments. In the N. T. tropically, to be in accord, to harmonize, i. e., a. to agree together: περί (as respects) τίνος, Matthew 18:19 (Dionysius Halicarnassus 2, 47); τίνι, with a thing, Acts 15:15 (often in Greek authors); to agree i. e. correspond, of things congruous in nature, Luke 5:36; passive, συνεφωνήθη ὑμῖν, followed by an infinitive, it was agreed between you to etc. Acts 5:9.

b. to agree with one in making a bargain, to make an agreement, to bargain, (Polybius, Diodorus): μετά τίνος ἐκ δηναρίου (see ἐκ, II. 4), Matthew 20:2; with a dative of the person and genitive of the price, ibid. 13, (συνεφώνησεν μετ' αὐτοῦ τριῶν λιτρων ἀσήμου ἀργυρίου, Act. Thom. § 2).

";commendatory,"; occurs in P Oxy XII. 1587.20 (late iii/A.D.) συστατικῶν γραμμάτων : cf. 2 Corinthians 3:1 συστατικῶν ἐπισρτολῶν. Good exx. of such letters are P Goodspeed 4 (ii/B.C.) (= Selections, p. 24), P Oxy IV. 787 (A.D. 16), ib. II. 294 (A.D. 22), ib. 292 (c. A.D. 25) (= Selections, P. 37).

Other exx. of the word are P Oxy III. 505.2 (ii/A.D.) κατὰ συστατικὸν γενόμενον, ";by the terms of a deed of representation"; (Edd.), and ib. 509.12 (late ii/A.D.) ὁμολο [γῶ ] τὸ íν ý συστατικὸν πεπυῆσθαί σ [ο ]ι, ";I acknowledge that the contract of representation has been made with you"; (Edd.), and in a more general sense P Tebt II. 315.29 (ii/A.D.) ἔχι γὰρ συστατικὰς ̣ [ ]π ̣ως τὸν ἀπιθοῦντα μετὰ φρουρᾶς τῷ ἀρχιερῖ πέμπιν, ";for he has instructions to send recalcitrants under guard to the high-priest"; (Edd.).

For συστάτης, ";a delegate,"; cf. P Oxy VIII. 1116.5 (A.D. 363) with note, and for σύστασις, ";an appointment,"; cf. ib. II. 261.17 (A.D. 55) εὐδοκεῖ γὰρ τῇδε τῇ συστάσει, and similarly P Tebt II. 317.14 (A.D. 174– 5). In P Flor I. 39.4 (A.D. 396) σ ̣υστάτης τῆς μελλούσης λιτου [ργεῖν φυ ]λ ̣ῆς, the word appears to mean ";representative"; (see the editor’s note). See s.v. συνίστημι.
