Andr. 1209 (in IA 1458 σπαράσσεσθαι is restored for σπαράξεσθαι in pass. sense): Pass., pf. ἐσπάρακται ( δι- ) Eub. 15.3: tear, rend, esp. of dogs, carnivorous animals, and the like, σάρκας ἐσπάρασσ' ἀπ' ὀστέων E. Med. 1217; ς. τὰς γνάθους Ar. Ra. 428: Med., σπαράσσεσθαι κόμαν tear one's hair, E. Andr. 1209 (lyr.).

2. rend asunder, φάραγγα βροντῇ . . πατὴρ σπαράξει A.l.c.
