embitter, provoke, c. acc., LXX Ezekiel 20:21; rebel against, τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦ Κυρίου ib. 1 Kings 13:26 : abs., ib. Ezekiel 24:3, al.; παραπικραίνουσα παρεπικράνθην ib. La. 1.20, cf. Hebrews 3:16.
παραπικραίνω: 1 aorist παρεπίκρανα; (see παρά, IV. 3); the Sept. chiefly for מָרָה, הִמְרָה, to be rebellious, contumacious, refractory; also for סָרַר, הִכְעִיס, etc.; to provoke, exasperate; to rouse to indignation: absolutely, (yet so that God is thought of as the one provoked), Hebrews 3:16. as in Psalm 105:7

";poor"; (2 Corinthians 9:9) : P Oxy III. 471.95 (ii/A.D.) πένης ἄνθρωπος [ἐν ] εὐτελέσιν ἱμα ́τίοις, ";poor man wearing cheap clothes"; (Edd.), P Ryl II. 62.11 (transl. from Latin–iii/A.D.) δύναμαι χαρίσασθαι καὶ πένητι [πλοῦ ]τ ̣ον, PSI II. 120.47 (a collection of sayings–iv/A.D. ?) πένης ὢν πλουσίοις μὴ ὁμίλει, and BGU IV. 1024vii. 9 (end iv/A.D.) τις γραῦς καὶ πένης. See also P Flor III. 296.18 (vi/A.D.) π ]ένητι καὶ πτωχῷ, which with its context recalls, as the editor points out, Psalms 40:2 [MT Psalms 41:2]. The words are also contrasted in Aristeas 249 : for the subst. πενία cf. ib. 289. See further s.v. πτωχός.
