ἀμφίβληστρον, , τό (ἀμφιβάλλω), in Greek writings anything thrown around one to impede his motion, as chains, a garment; specifically, a net for fishing (casting-net): Mark 1:16 R G L; Matthew 4:18. ἀμφι -βάλλω

(v. supr.),

[in LXX: Habakkuk 1:17 *;]

= περιβάλλω , to throw around, as a garment: absol. (MM, VGT, s.v.), of casting a net: Mark 1:16 (Rec. βάλλονταν ἀμφίβληστρον ).†

SYN.: δίκτυον G1350, σαγήνη G4522. . is a casting-net, σ . a drag-net, δ . is the more general term - a net of any kind (Tr., Syn., § lxiv).
