θλῖψις, στενοχωρία.

θλῖψις according to its derivation means pressure. In its figurative sense it is that which presses upon the spirit, affliction. στενοχωρία meant originally a narrow, confined space. It denotes affliction as arising from cramping circumstances. In use it cannot always be distinguished from θλῖψις, but it is ordinarily a stronger word.
