There are four Hebrew words thus translated. The principal point of interest in connection with the subject is with reference to the Israelites borrowing from the Egyptians at the Exodus, as in the A.V. The word there is shaal, and it is translated 'ask' 88 times; there can be no doubt therefore that 'ask' is the more appropriate word in Exodus 3:22; Exodus 11:2; Exodus 12:35 . In Exodus 22:14 and 2 Kings 6:5 however the word 'borrow' is better retained.
