Additional Links
(hee' buhr) Personal name meaning, “companion.” 1. Grandson of Asher and great grandson of Jacob (Genesis 46:17 ). He was the original clan ancestor of the Heberites (Numbers 26:45 ). 2 . Kenite related to family of Moses' wife (Judges 4:11 ). His wife Jael killed Sisera, the Canaanite general, breaking a political alliance between Heber's clan and Jabin, Sisera's king (Judges 4:17 ). This completed the great victory of Deborah and Barak over the Canaanites. 3. A member of the tribe of Judah in a Hebrew text (1 Chronicles 4:18 ) which apparently lists two mothers of Heber, one an Egyptian. Commentators generally change the text or consider that some words have fallen out of the text as it was copied. Heber was the father of Socho and thus apparently recognized as founding ancestor of town of Socho. See Socho. 4. A member of the tribe of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 8:17 ). 5 . A different Hebrew word lies behind Eber (1 Chronicles 5:13; 1 Chronicles 8:22 ), which KJV spells Heber. See Eber . The Heber in Luke 3:35 (KJV) is the Eber of Genesis 11:15 .
