Verse 1

Abinadab. Some codices, with one early printed edition, Aramaean, Septuagint, and Syriac, add "which is". in the hill. Or, in Gibeah.

Verse 2

time was long . Ark remained with Philistines seven months (1 Samuel 6:1 ); sent from Ekron to Kirjathjearim in 1040, and remained there twenty years (1 Samuel 7:0 ). From the capture (in 1040BC ) to its entry into Zion (in 950BC) was eighty-nine years (2 Samuel 7:17 ).

coast = border, or boundary.

Verse 17

there was his house . Compare 1 Samuel 1:19 , &c.

altar . Shiloh forsaken, and Ark separated from Tabernacle. There was no chosen "place".
