Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
And they that passed by, railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah thou that destroyest the Temple, and buildest it in three dayes,

People who passed by said terrible things about Jesus. They shook their heads and shouted, "Ha! So you're the one who claimed you could tear down the temple and build it again in three days.
People passing by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! So you can destroy the Temple, can you, and rebuild it in three days?
And they that passed by reviled him, shaking their heads, and saying, Aha, thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days,
People walked by and said bad things to Jesus. They shook their heads and said, "You said you could destroy the Temple and build it again in three days.

Those who walked by shook their heads and laughed at Jesus. They said, "You were the One Who could destroy the house of God and build it again in three days.
Those who passed by derided him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days,
And they that passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads and saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God and in three days buildest it up again:

besides the people that pass'd by, shook their heads, and impiously said: ah, you that can destroy the temple, and rebuild it in three days,
Many who passed by shouted, "You said you could destroy the church building in three days and then rebuild it . . .

And they that passed by,.... In the road, and went by the cross. The Arabic version adds, "before him", Christ, as he hung on the cross:
railed on him, wagging their heads; gave him opprobrious language, and used indecent gestures;
and saying, ah! thou that destroyest the temple; the Vulgate Latin version adds, "of God":
and buildest it in three days; thou poor vain miserable creature, that boasted of thy power, where art thou now? and what dost thou think of thyself?
